Fuzhou

 

Fuzhou is the capital city of Fujian Province. It is in the south China. It has an area of about 12,154 sq. km. Its population is 60,939,000 according to a provincial census conducted in 2004. Fuzhou City is located in Hekou Basin. Surrounded by mountains, it is rich in natural resources such as minerals and forests. Fuzhou features the maritime subtropical monsoon climate. As a result, it is warm and moist and has long summers and short winters. Its average annual rainfall is 900 to 2100 mm. Its average annual temperature is 16 to 20 degrees centigrade. The coldest months in Fuzhou are January and February and the hottest are July and August. In January or February, the average temperature is 6 to 10 degrees centigrade. In its hottest months, the average temperature reaches 24 to 29 degrees centigrade. And the best traveling time is between April and November.



Cuisine  

As the leading representative of Min Cuisine, Fuzhou Cuisine boasts a long history and a good reputation. Carefully-selected food materials together with special cooking methods make Fuzhou Cuisine one of the eight famous cooking styles in China. Fo Tiao Qiang, the top cuisine of Min Cuisine, is extremely famous for it is elaborately cooked and is fairly appetizing. Special snacks are an important component of Fuzhou Cuisine. Those made from rice, bean, or sugar enjoy a great fame all over the nation in particular. Some of them are closely related to Chinese traditional festivals. For example, red or white Rice Cake during the Spring Festival and Rice Ball in the Lantern Festival are fairly popular to the local people. In recent years, many cuisines in Fuzhou have been granted as Chinese Famous Cuisine. Taiji Taro Cream of Juchunyuan Restaurant, Ding Bian Hu and Bian Rou Yan of Antailou Restaurant and Meishiyuan Restaurant are on the list.



Traditional Art 

As the capital city of Fujian, Fuzhou is rich in traditional art. Min Play, Ping Hua and Shi Fan are the three traditional arts in Fuzhou. Min Play is a kind of dialect play. It gradually sprung up in Ming Dynasty. It was initially named Min Ban. Later in 1924, with the publication of some traditional plays, it was renamed Min Play. Ping Hua is the chief folk art in Fuzhou City. It consists of singing, narrating, and acting. It is considered to be the living fossil because of its long history. Shi Fan was initially called Xie Huan. It is also the main folk art in Fuzhou. Shi Fan has evolved from Dragon-lantern Dance. It boasts lovely melodies.
