Huaihai Road was called Xiafei Road before the Reform and Opening. As the Avenue des Champs-Elyse’s in Paris, the Fifth Avenue in New York, the Enjoy Area in Tokyo and the Hugate Road in Singapore, Huaihai Road also is one of the world's top class shopping streets. The busiest part in this street has included more than 400 stores in just 2.2 sq. km area. The buildings along it are in European style which mixed with Chinese characteristics. Some are in old style while some are in modern style, so that they become a new and beautiful view on the street.
 

Huaihai Road has been separate into three parts in different styles. The eastern part (from Tibet Road to Chongqing Road) is the high-grade business area. The Hong Kong Plaza and the Shanghai Plaza are both located here. The advanced official mansions are densely built here. The middle part (from Chongqing Road to Shaanxi Road) is the classical shopping area. This area is the longest area in the whole street which has about 5.5 km-length. There are over tens of thousands tourists visit here everyday for their shopping. The world famous companies set their stores along this busy street, such as Paris Spring, Baisheng etc. The merchandise here is famous for high price and made with advanced techniques. The western part (from Shaanxi Road to Changshu Road) is the fashion shopping area. This area is a professional fashion sells area. Every fashion products both in China and abroad could be found here. Sometimes, this area is being regarded as the leader of fashion in China.

Not only the shopping but also the delicious food is famous here. Every taste could be found here. The Western restaurants are professional and Chinese restaurants different cuisine styles are served. Some Japanese and Korean restaurants here are popular too. You can try Huijiamei Restaurant, Tangxuan Restaurant and even Quanjude Roast Duck in this street.
