China attractions - Namtso Lake is the largest inland lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region. And it's also the saltwater lake with highest altitude in the world. In Tibetan, Namtso means heaven lake. It is north to the main peak of Nyainqêntanghla Range, 240 km far from Lhasa. Namtso lake is the second largest saltwater lake (the largest is Qinhai Lake) in China which covers 1940 sq.km in area. To the north and west of Namtso, there are plateau hills. The vast lake shore around Namtso grows rich grassland and breeds all kinds of plateau wild animals like bisons, goats and so on. The water in the lake is fresh and clear, with rich fish resouce. Matched with the surrounding snow-capped mountains, the lake shows extra beautiful scenery.    

 
 
In Tibetan legend, clear water in Namtso likes sky fell down to the ground. So the lake was named "Sky Lake". And herders here prefer to explain it as a result of high altitude lake almost located in the sky. However, the faithful Tibetan respect Namtso as one of the four mighty and powerful lakes. And it's a well-known Tibetan Buddhist holy sites all the time.
