China attractions - Qinghai Lake is the largest inland lake and salt water lake in China. It's vast and magnificent scenery appears like a great mirror lies on Qinghai Plateau.

Qinghai Lake is called the "West Sea" in ancient period, also known as "Fresh Sea". Tibetan called it "Green lake" while Mongolian gave the name "Blue sea".  The name had been last changed to "Qinghai" in Northern Wei Dynasty.

Qinghai Lake is located in the north-east of Qinghai Plateau and surrounded by four mountains in altitude of 3600-5000 meters. Looking around the lake, the four mountains are like natural barriers, embrace the whole lake. From the foot of the mountains to the lake side, there is boundless grassland. Qinghai Lake lies in the centre of the mountains and grassland like a huge emerald plate. The two islands, Haixin Hill and Bird Island, are famous tourist attractions. Haixin Hill is a one square kilometers island with all kinds of rocks in various  shape. And the well-known bird island is located in the west part of Qinghai lake, near to the Buha river, which is the largest injection rivers of the lake. The area of Bird Island is only a half square kilometers. In Springs and summers, over 100,000 migratory birds inhabit here. And the government has set a specialized agency for birds protection and researching.
